==Summary== The authorities arrive as evening sets in. Kingdom Come’s former controlees barely remember the attack. Gilpatrick assures Victoria that the patrol kids are unharmed, at least physically. He expressed admiration of Jasper, though the rest of the patrol underperformed. Victoria admits that her presence through the fight likely disturbed the patrol team. They discuss Fume Hood, who is in a stable condition thanks to Tempera’s intervention. Still, Victoria doubts that Fume Hood would return to hero work. As the conversation continues, Victoria pursues the topic of Snag and his emotional power. She is fairly certain that he is a multitrigger cape. Gilpatrick does his best to explain the scenario he had put together, how he recommended Victoria as a parahuman to moderate and protect the patrol recruits on behalf of the school board. Considering how the fight went down, with Victoria’s indiscriminate aura blast, he is forced to let her go. Nevertheless, he offers to stay friends with her and call in any favor she asks for. Disappointed, Victoria responds that she is needed at a family social. In a nicer neighborhood of the city, Victoria joins her parents, cousins, and a few neighbors around a fire pit. When Carol tries to bring up the day’s fight, Victoria deflects. Soon after, she notices that her family seems on edge. She explodes at Carol upon the realization that they had invited Amy. As Carol and Mark attempt to justify their actions, Victoria breaks down and exclaims that she can never trust any invitations from her family, especially after they neglected her at the hospital. Victoria escapes the party and scares off a person following her, presumably Amy. Disgusted by the idea of going back to the house or her dad’s apartment, Victoria seeks out Gilpatrick’s office. He agrees to give her the room, directs her to a heater and blankets, and expresses concern over her mental state. When he leaves, Victoria packs up her belongings and briefly reads through some files until anxiety gets the better of her. She walks over to the window and lets her forcefield rest against the condensation. The forcefield is distorted, smearing and fidgeting against the glass: the form she had in the hospital. Victoria considers two theories: one, that her forcefield evolves as she grows, and that it had been set at a new maximum size during her stay at the hospital. Two, that the form was part of her new identity, replicated by the Manton Effect. She strains to reject the second theory and directs her attention to the office computer, restlessly seeking to fill out out a form on “the group [she’d] seen”.
