==Plot==
Weld comes back to Brockton Bay a week after defending it against [[Leviathan]],<ref name="9.1 c1"/> arriving at a PRT airport. He is greeted by [[Emily Piggot|Director Piggot]], who briefs him on his current status: he is to take leadership of the [[The Wards|Brockton Bay Wards]], which is rather small at the moment, only consisting of [[Clockblocker]], [[Vista]], [[Shadow Stalker]], and [[Kid Win]], although other members may join soon (referencing [[Chariot]] and [[Flechette]]). 

As they board a helicopter to take them to the Wards' headquarters, Piggot informs him of some of the aftermath of [[Battle against Leviathan|Leviathan's attack on Brockton Bay]], including the rough state of the city, the formation of [[The Pure]] and [[Fenrir's Chosen]], as well as [[Coil]]'s rise to power. Weld repeatedly tries to make small talk with Piggot, but falls short several times, before they arrive.

Weld tries to make his introduction to the Wards, but messes up. He tries to appear friendly, yet focused, but he's repeatedly cut-off by an upset Clockblocker, and nobody else is willing to listen to Weld. Vista tries to show some sympathy, but quickly changes her mind after Weld's failure to know about the losses of [[Aegis]], [[Browbeat]] and [[Gallant]]. Weld realizes that getting the Wards on his side will be a very uphill battle, and starts studying the state of Brockton Bay.
