To deter Scion from tracing their activities, [[Cauldron]] scattered around [[deviant]]s in their [[Cauldron_Compound|headquarters]] and on [[Earth Bet]] to act as a kind of smokescreen against Scion.<ref>“Mm hmm,” he responded, nonchalant.  “So Cauldron uses these deviants as a particularly strong source of our metaphorical ‘smell’.  They scatter them across the world where Cauldron is most active, the world Scion occupies, and he loses the ability to sniff them out.  Of course, this only works when the deviant isn’t going to draw undue attention.
