Heroes are outnumbered 2 to 1 due to the trauma of [[trigger events]], though the little-known option of purchasing powers prevents this ratio from being even more lopsided. Many are part of [[The Protectorate]], but there are also vigilantes, both solo and teamed. Some have private sponsors, including corporations and religious organizations. The heroes of Worm do not always have altruistic motives and many, such as [[Colin Wallis|Armsmaster]], [[Shadow Stalker]], or [[Monokeros]] frequently abuse their privileged position. Many of the higher tiered heroes purchased their powers from [[Cauldron]]; exactly how many have done this is unknown.
