Gladly struck Taylor as as one of the ‘popular’ kids who had become a teacher. He was "the sort of teacher who tried to be friends with his students, the sort who went by “Mr. G” instead of Mr. Gladly. He gave a lot of group work so others could hang out with their friends in class, and had ‘fun’ assignments like mock trials."<ref name="1.01" />

Prior to the events of Worm, Mr. Gladly was the 'cool' teacher at [[Winslow High]], known for assigning group work, insisting his students call him "Mr. G" and allowing the students to get away with things. Taylor hated him, as this behavior allowed the bullying and exclusion she was experiencing to continue inside the classroom.

Mr. Gladly offered his help to Taylor to attempt to resolve the bullying situation.<ref>[[Insinuation 2.3]]</ref> Following her outright refusal (on the basis that she believed even the best case scenario, having them suspended for a few days, would achieve nothing except provoking them to retaliate), Mr. Gladly ignored all further assaults.<ref>[[Insinuation 2.4]]</ref><ref>[[Agitation 3.1]]</ref> He did not defend her later.<ref>[[Hive 5.4]]</ref>

Mr. Gladly specifically was based on a "Mr. G" that Wildbow had as a teacher.<ref>White Fairy and Mr. Gladly are actually based on people I know.
