Personality

Gladly struck Taylor as as one of the ‘popular’ kids who had become a teacher. She speculated that he probably thought he was everyone’s favorite, and wondered whether it would it shatter his self image to realize she disagreed.<ref name="1.01">Excerpt from Gestation 1.1</ref>

He was "the sort of teacher who tried to be friends with his students, the sort who went by “Mr. G” instead of Mr. Gladly. He gave a lot of group work so others could hang out with their friends in class, and had ‘fun’ assignments like mock trials."<ref name="1.01" />

Relationships

Gladly would chat with a bunch of the more social members of his class afterwards, ending his classes slightly early.<ref name="1.01" />

He was especially animated when talking about parahumans and "for once, the class was listening".<ref name="1.01" />

White Fairy

Gladly's girlfriend, civilian name unknown. She went by "White Fairy" on Parahumans Online.

Appearance

Mr. Gladly is described as short, gregarious, and young-looking enough to be mistaken for a high school student.

History

Background

Prior to the events of Worm, Mr. Gladly was the 'cool' teacher at Winslow High, known for assigning group work, insisting his students call him "Mr. G" and allowing the students to get away with things. Taylor hated him, as this behavior allowed the bullying and exclusion she was experiencing to continue inside the classroom.

Mr. Gladly offered his help to Taylor to attempt to resolve the bullying situation.<ref>Insinuation 2.3</ref> Following her outright refusal (on the basis that she believed even the best case scenario, having them suspended for a few days, would achieve nothing except provoking them to retaliate), Mr. Gladly ignored all further assaults.<ref>Insinuation 2.4</ref><ref>Agitation 3.1</ref> He did not defend her later.<ref>Hive 5.4</ref>

Battle against Leviathan

Mr. Gladly took shelter in an emergency shelter during Leviathan's attack on Brockton Bay.<ref>Extermination 8.5</ref> He was killed along with half the refugees after Leviathan broke into the shelter. His death was confirmed by White Fairy on Parahumans Online.<ref>Interlude 19.y</ref>

Trivia

• Both Mr. Gladly and his girlfriend White Fairy are based on people Wildbow knew in real life. Mr. Gladly specifically was based on a "Mr. G" that Wildbow had as a teacher.<ref>White Fairy and Mr. Gladly are actually based on people I know. It was a head-trip, because WF was someone I'd known since I was young, and I was talking with her- she asked me about my teacher Mr. G, and I gave my honest opinion.
  Turned out she was dating him and was considering breaking up with him.
