Contessa's power allows her to see the steps she needs to take to succeed at the task she is visualizing (whether it's combat, psychological manipulation, or Cauldron's long-term plans) along with the ability to go through the steps perfectly. She lacks the common Thinker weakness of being cancelled out by other Thinkers. Certain beings such as Scion and Endbringers are immune to her ability, but even then she can still somewhat predict their actions by considering the situation as a hypothetical, though the accuracy of these predictions rely heavily on how well she knows the being in question, Eidolon being the only immune person she can use her power on somewhat reliably.

She is so feared by other capes despite not even knowing her name that she's referred to simply as "her" or "the Bogeyman." When [[Taylor Hebert|Weaver]] asks Prefab her classification, she's simply told, "Thinker. Don't worry about the number. Just run."

As a child, Fortuna accidentally received a critical shard from an entity as it impacted her Earth, which let her take the exact steps required to bring her desired future to pass. The power came with a vision of the entity's plan; to put a whole world in perpetual conflict, letting its powers mature and then consuming the world and all parallel worlds to continue its reproductive cycle. Using the power granted by the shard she began going through the complex motions required to ensure the death of the entity. The entity, realizing what she was trying to do, restricted her power, preventing it from being used against itself. She managed to partially get around this restriction by avoiding thinking directly about the entity
Contessa was born as Fortuna on another earth that Eden collided with. When she was a child, several people in her village triggered by consuming food and drink contaminated with parts of [[Eden]] following the entity's crash-landing. Fortuna's trigger event included a vision Eden and Scion's plans to sow conflict and destroy humanity, and she set about finding and killing the entity with a power that was still unrestricted

With the help of a woman who would later call herself 'the Doctor' she managed to stop the entity from killing her and reclaiming the critical shard. The Doctor, armed with a knife and directions both given by Fortuna, managed to stab the entity in a critical location, rendering it effectively brain dead. Fortuna realized that there was still another of these entities left somewhere and, together with the Doctor, formed Cauldron with the sole purpose of stopping this other entity. The entity's corpse was harvested by Cauldron for powers, which they tried to grant other people. Ashamed of the human experimentation she had to perform to improve the power formula and stop them from killing the subjects, she took the name Contessa to avoid shaming the name her parents gave her

As her powers were blind to the other entity due to the restriction the first one placed on it, she let the Doctor take a leadership role and make plans, letting her consider those plans without directly thinking about the entity, and thus giving her more freedom to use her powers

She is one of the most powerful parahumans in existence and is known as "her" or "the Bogeyman" to people high-ranked enough in the Protectorate to know about her. One Protectorate cape classifies her as "Thinker. Don't worry about the number. Just run."

She lacks the common Thinker weakness of being cancelled out by other Thinkers, including precognitives, but is not immune to perception and power-blocking trumps such as Mantellum. History

Background

Contessa was born as Fortuna on another earth that Eden collided with. When she was a child, several people in her village triggered by consuming food and drink contaminated with parts of Eden following the entity's crash-landing. Fortuna's trigger event included a vision Eden and Scion's plans to sow conflict and destroy humanity, and she set about finding and killing the entity with a power that was still unrestricted.

The entity, realizing what she was trying to do, restricted her power so that it could not be used against Entities. With the help of a woman who would later call herself 'the Doctor,' Fortuna managed to stop the entity from killing her and reclaiming the critical shard. The Doctor, armed with a knife and directions both given by Fortuna, managed to stab the entity in a critical location, rendering it effectively brain dead.

The Doctor and Fortuna founded Cauldron with the sole purpose of stopping Eden's partner entity, Scion. They harvested Eden's corpse for powers, which they were able to grant to other people. Ashamed of the human experimentation she had to perform to improve the power formula, Fortuna took the name Contessa out of respect to her parents.
