4.c (Cluster; Love Lost’s night) is the tenth chapter of Shade and the third interlude. Rain sees many ways to his doom, then has his decision making heavily compromised by an interview with Mama Mathers.

Love Lost's history is explored. A women who has tried to be better.

The scene from the last chapter is shown from rain's perspective.

Erian and Rain are stopped as they drive back into the fallen compound.

Rain has an interview with the Matriarch of the Mathers Clan. Most of the interview is conducted telepathically. At the conclusion he is told to give her a kiss and then leave.

He is escorted out by Elijah Mathers who confirms he 'brainwashed' Lachan.

Rain returns to his workshop where he meets Erin who comforts him as he falls to sleep.

Trivia

• Given that Everlyn is a young child when she wrote her book the main women is likely based on her mother. As such Love Lost was likely working in Law enforcement before the End of the World.
