Emma was one of the most popular girls attending Winslow High. She's described as a tall, curvy redhead who is pretty enough to do amateur modeling. She spent most of the first few arcs bullying Taylor.
After the events of Extermination, her family moved to either Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon and only appears during phone calls with Shadow Stalker in Sentinel 9.6 and Interlude 10.
She was killed by Scion's attack against Brockton Bay, leaving her family behind to grieve her on Earth Gimel.
Relationships
Emma and Taylor were best friends until the summer before high school. She led the bullying that began when school started and was able to be especially cruel due to being privy to all of Taylor's secrets.
Sophia Hess became her new best friend. They became friends during summer camp when she learned about Sophia's powers. She was Sophia's confidant and was the one Sophia called for emotional support. The state of this relationship is questionable because Regent forced Sophia to call Emma and tell her she's secretly been in love with her.
Madison Clement rounds out the trio of girls, but their relationship isn't detailed as much as Emma's and Sophia's.
Her father Alan Barnes was a lawyer and doted on her and protected her from her mistakes as witnessed in Hive 5.3 and Hive 5.4. Her older sister Anne and mother Zoe are only mentioned in passing, as they mourn her together with Alan in Extinction 27.1.
