Appearance

As Shielder, Eric wears a white bodysuit with a blue-tinted visor and a blue shield emblem emblazoned on the front. He also has dyed his hair blue.

Abilities and Powers

Eric has a powerset identical to his mother - flight, the ability to project 'hard light' blasts, and forcefields - with his talents primarily lying in his ability to create forcefields. He is perhaps the best forcefield user in Brockton Bay with his ability to shape them at will and fix their position in midair without any grounding. His shields are even able to withstand the full force of an incoming tidal wave strong enough to level buildings.

History

Shielder went out with the rest of New Wave in an attempt to stop the Empire Eighty-Eight's capes. He fought alongside Flashbang and Brandish against Krieg, Victor, Othala and Alabaster. When Purity blasted a rooftop in an attempt to hit Glory Girl, Shielder deflected the blast with a shield. <ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Buzz 7.9</ref>

Later, Shielder accompanied New Wave to the Protectorate HQ when the Endbringer sirens went off. He sat with the younger members of New Wave next to the Wards, but didn't join in with the conversation the other heroes were having. He then listened as Legend told them what was going on and what they would do. <ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Extermination 8.1</ref>

Sometime afterward, Shielder shouted for those near him to come to him. He waited until the last second to erect a forcefield bubble around them moments before a tidal wave hit. He held against the wave and then fell to his knees after Leviathan passed. Once Myrddin and Eidolon dissipated the water, he let his shield fall.

Later, Shielder created another shield to prevent him and his sister from being pulverized by Leviathan's afterimage. His shield flickered a second later before Leviathan lashed out with his tail towards them. Laserdream put up a shield only for Leviathan to wrap his tail around it and pulled them down with him. When the forcefield broke, the tail wrapped around Shielder. He had his upper body brought down against the ragged edge of the building in passing, killing him. <ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Extermination 8.3</ref>

Trivia

• Shielder's 'color' on his team is light blue.
• His name is fairly self explanatory, given his focus on forcefields. The simplicity of this codename might be rooted in his youth and the fact that he apparently got his powers fairly early on in life (and was thus less educated and mature when he picked his name).
