History
Battery is the daughter of a detective who was tired of seeing the work put into apprehending villains put to waste by a parahuman mercenary named Madcap who specialized in breaking criminals out of prison. She was contacted by Cauldron due to her shopping for tinker-made equipment and agreed to a meeting to discuss buying powers. She worked out a deal in exchange for powers above what she would normally be able to afford: she would do a total of three favors instead of the requisite one.
During her first encounter with Madcap, her powers failed her and she was defeated in one attack. Upon returning to Cauldron, Battery was told that she could not afford for Cauldron to help her learn how to use her powers, but Doctor Mother said they would like her to join The Wards and graduate to The Protectorate as soon as possible as one of the favors she owed. She accepted and would go on to lead the Brocton Bay Wards for a brief period before she graduated to The Protectorate.
Battery, with assistance from Legend, was successful in capturing Madcap on her eighth encounter with him. He was successful in convincing them that he would be more valuable as a member of The Protectorate instead of being sent to the Birdcage. In exchange for his service and his agreement to having countermeasures put in place to ensure his continued service, he was allowed two concessions: first, he got a new identity, and second, he would always be on the same team as Battery. Battery's reluctant agreement began her partnership with Assault.
Cauldron called in their second favor during a storybook reading Battery convinced Assault to attend in exchange for the possibility of a date in the future. A client wanted a known cape to deliver the product. She did that favor with no regrets.
The morning after Shatterbird announced the Slaughterhouse Nine's arrival, Assault visited her house to check up on her and start their patrol. He also had a letter from Cauldron that was delivered by courier. It appeared blank until exposed to her powers and detailed her final task: she was ensure The Siberian and Shatterbird left the city alive.<ref name="I12.5"> Interlude 12.5</ref>
She intended to offer her aid and then betray the villains but was fatally poisoned by Bonesaw before she could approach them- she told Legend what had been asked of her before she died, prompting his investigation of Cauldron.
Powers and Abilities
Battery can concentrate to charge her power and then release it to give herself a large boost to her speed with a corresponding smaller boost to strength and some electromagnetic powers. It is a physiological change, altering her biology and then altering it back before it became too much on her body. The actual act of moving at great speeds is an incredible strain on the body. Every second she stands still concentrating gives her several seconds of enhanced abilities.
Trivia
