Background

After Carlos triggered, he joined the Brockton Bay Wards team. Following Triumph's graduation into the Brockton Bay Protectorate, Aegis became leader of the Wards.

Personality

[Coming Soon]

Appearance

Carlos is described as young man of Puerto Rican descent. He wears a rust-red costume with a matching helmet, both with silver-white trim, and a shield emblem. During his first appearance, however, he switched costumes with Clockblocker as part of a plan to trick the Undersiders.<ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Agitation 3.8</ref>

Abilities and Powers

Aegis possesses the ability of flight and an augmented physiology that lacks any weak points. His entire biology is filled with so many redundancies and reinforcements that makes it very difficult to put him down. For example: blinding him allows him to see by sensing light through his skin, cutting his throat would make it clot almost immediately, cutting off an arm would only last until he could get it reattached and stabbing him in the heart means that other organs would take its place.<ref>"Worm Web Serial, Agitation 3.3</ref>

Aegis' augmented physiology allows him to abuse his body in ways that make him appear to possess supernatural strength. He can throw punches hard enough that they’d break his hand, mangle his joints and tear his muscles, and his body will take it. He can further enhance his strength by undergoing adrenaline rushes that he can keep going for hours. This has the further side effect of making it so that he never gets tired.<ref>"Worm Web Serial, Agitation 3.3</ref>

During the Wards' confrontation of the Undersiders at the bank, Aegis survived being slammed into the ground hard enough to kill a person. He also survived a salvo of lasers capable of shattering stone and knocking Bitch's enhanced dogs off their feet.

In addition to his flight and augmented physiology, Aegis possesses a form of Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP) although his powers allow him to deal with the drawbacks.

History

Aegis led the Brockton Bay Wards to the bank after it was learned that the Undersiders were robbing it. He switched costumes with Clockblocker in an attempt to fool the Undersiders and have Clockblocker tag them - removing the majority of the Undersiders' fire power in one fell swoop. He then lined up with the other Wards across from the bank and waited for the Undersiders to attempt to make a break for it.

Following the Undersiders' release of some of their hostages, Grue flooded the street with darkness. Bitch and her dogs emerged from the darkness towards Aegis and Clockblocker only to switch course and go after him instead of Clockblocker. He tried to fly away, but Judas' tail wrapped around him and whipped him to the ground hard enough to kill an ordinary person. He got up a moment later and rushed at Judas and swung at his snout. Bitch managed to steer Judas into Grue's darkness and flipped him the middle finger before sending Brutus and Angelica after him.

Aegis held his ground against Brutus and Angelica, but ended up receiving several damages to his borrowed costume. Brutus lunged at him only to fall short at the edge of the space Vista had distorted. Aegis took advantage by slamming both of his fists into the dog's snout and sent it crashing to the sky. He attempted to take into the air only for Angelica to leap after him and, rebounding on a building, catch him in his jaws before taking him down with her. She shook him violently, but he still fought - slamming his free hand against the side of her head repeatedly.

Aegis later managed to break free from Angelica only to be hemmed in by Bitch's three dogs and Regent, using Kid Win's Alternator Cannon. Regent fired a salvo of shots to hammer Aegis into the side of a building before he escaped with the other Undersiders. He emerged from the rubble and flew into the air to get a bird's eye view to try and find them, but Grue filled every street and side street they passed.

Following the battle, the Brockton Bay Wards moved to the PRT Building where they were met by Director Piggot. He greeted her and, after she asked about his voice, he told her about his punctured lung and stuck a hand through the hole in his chest. She told him that he didn't need to demonstrate and he smiled. After she chastised him for the property damage caused by the fight, she told them she would be docking their pay. She weathered their complaints and then turned to Kid Win

After Director Piggot asked about Kid Win's Alternator Cannon, Aegis groaned. He tried to interrupt, but she spoke over him. He eventually stepped forward after she said that Kid Win could face a serious fine or jail time. She told him to be quiet and, while she admired him for standing up for his team, that his lungful of breath was wasted.

After Director Piggot and Kid Win left, Aegis told the other Wards that they were going to debrief and that Clockblocker or Gallant could handle it. He led the Wards down the Tinker-designed elevator and towards the security terminal at the end of the hallway. There, he pointed at Clockblocker and admitted that he might have a detached retina and that he didn't want to fail the retina scan.

Gallant asked about Shadow Stalker being missing and Aegis told him that she couldn't make it in time and he had told her to stay put. He then admitted that part of the reason he had was because Shadow Stalker hated Grue before telling them that he was going to take a shower and patch himself up while they started to debrief. Clockblocker readily agreed and saluted him as he swore about Bitch's mutant dogs and walked over to the bathroom.

Aegis returned after patching his injuries and added his input to the lists his team had started on each member of the Undersiders. He grabbed a spare mask from the drawer of the computers after a noise alerted the Wards to visitors.

Armsmaster, Miss Militia and Panacea entered the room before Miss Militia who told the Wards that Panacea had volunteered to come and patch them up. Panacea thanked them for coming to her rescue and for allowing her sister to tag along.

Panacea asked who needed the most help, but Aegis told her that he would live and volunteered to be the last person healed. Gallant spoke up and Panacea followed him to a private space to get healed while Aegis stayed behind. He later looked up as Panacea emerged, picked up a marker and began to write down information in the column that had been made for Tattletale. He was eventually healed.

Aegis later appeared alongside New Wave's fliers following the reveal of the Empire Eighty-Eight's identities and Purity's subsequent rampage. Crusader and Rune ran interference for Purity, distracting and trapping the heroes so that Purity could blast them out of the sky.

Director Piggot eventually decided to restructure the Brockton Bay Protectorate and Wards team and planned to swap Aegis with Weld. She and the PRT wanted to see how Aegis would handle leading a different team.<ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Interlude 7</ref>

After Armsmaster and Dragon's program predicted that Leviathan would attack Brockton Bay, Aegis moved to the Protectorate base. He was seen talking amongst the Brockton Bay Wards near New Wave. He then listened as Legend gave a pre-battle speech.<ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Extermination 8.1</ref>

Aegis later moved to distribute armbands to the gathered heroes and villains that would help coordinate them in the upcoming fight. He then joined the group of front-line combatants led by Alexandria and Dragon. He was later teleported out of the base by Strider.<ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Extermination 8.2</ref>

Later, when Leviathan was heaving himself out of a building's remains and used his tail to fling debris at the assembled capes, Aegis threw himself at the incoming projectiles. Despite his efforts, two capes were struck down while a third was struck in half by the water from Leviathan's tail.<ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Extermination 8.3</ref>

Leviathan was later trapped by Kaiser, giving the assembled capes time to gather and prepare for when they would move again. Aegis took an aerial route to prevent Leviathan from heading to the rooftops. He was later killed by Leviathan when the Endbringer broke free and went up towards the rooftops.<ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Extermination 8.4</ref>

Aegis' name was later added to the Endbringer monument.
