I'm hesitant to edit the page myself, but I think that the name Snag could refer to a tree without limbs. See the following sources.
- The children's book "Fire! A Renewal of A Forest" by Celia Godkin which describes snags as trees dead or alive that have had their limbs burnt off.
- Wikipedia Snag (ecology) a standing, dead or dying tree, often missing a top or most of the smaller branches. trees, branches, and other pieces of naturally occurring wood found sunken in rivers and streams
- Wikipedia Glossary of wildfire terms Any dead standing tree that may be in danger of falling or collapsing.
- Wikipedia Shredding (tree-pruning technique) Another name for cutting side branches off trees ... to allow harvest of firewood and animal fodder while preserving a tall main trunk which may be harvested for timber at a later date.
