Othala is a neo-Nazi parahuman, originally affiliated with the Empire Eighty-Eight , who survived almost the entire length of the story. She can grant powers with a touch, drawing them from a limited, and rather basic subset, including enhanced speed, strength, invincibility and flight. Othala wears a red bodysuit with a rune at the chest, presumed to be the Othala rune (See Meta). Known as O by Victor , her partner throughout her life, to whom she was deeply attached.
Characteristics:
Othala wore something decidedly more traditional as superhero costumes went. Her bodysuit was skintight and tomato red, with a single icon in the center. Like the swastika, it featured a circle with a black border and white center, and a rune (see meta) in black. She’d taken to wearing an eyepatch with the same icon on it in white. Her hair covered enough of that side of her face that it wasn’t obvious.
Activity:
Her identity was revealed by Coil to the public in his ploy to undermine the Empire Eighty-Eight. Fought against the New Wave as the E88, and against Leviathan in a supporting aspect, granting powers. She later joined the Chosen upon the death of Kaiser . Helped healing of Stormtiger andMenja by granting regenerative powers, operated as a medic for the Chosen in the wake of Shatterbird 's assault. She attended the neutral ground meeting with Hookwolf , providing signalling capacity with her power.
Powers were borrowed by Grue after his second trigger, to provide healing to the Undersiders . Teamed with Victor to supplement his power set. Her relationship with Victor, and the accompanying insecurities, were used by Tattletale to manipulate Victor, highlighting her skill by turning one of the more stable relationships in canon in upon itself. Was looking to leave the Chosen with Victor and Rune , perhaps enroute tothe Pure , when ambushed by the Undersiders. Either complicit or actively participated in the destruction of Blasto' s lab in events occurring parallel to Scourge . She was encountered by Khepri , and then destroyed by Scion whilst under the effects of the former's power.
Meta:
The Othala rune means heritage or ancestry, and although norse in origin, has been used as a hate symbol by real-world extremists. It was described as a diamond with two legs extending from the bottom point, each turning up at the bottom.
