Scion was the first parahuman to make themselves known to the world canonically. He is a mostly expressionless man with glowing golden skin, long hair, and a white bodysuit.

History

On May 20th, 1982, a golden man was first spotted hovering above the ocean by a passenger on a cruise liner crossing from Plymouth to Boston. He approached the ship and interacted with the passengers. He cured a man of cancer simply through touch, and inspired a new era of hope and optimism.

For years afterward, the man restlessly traveled around the world, assisting and preventing countless crises around the world, ranging from car accidents to quelling an active volcano. It's also implied his actions prevented 9/11 and the levee failure caused by Hurricane Katrina.

After extinguishing a fire in Alexandrovsk, he was asked by a reporter who or what he was. He responded by shocking the world with the first and only word he has spoken in the past thirty years.

"Scion."

A word that meant descendant became the name for the first Parahuman to appear on earth.

However, he was misunderstood - the actual word he used was 'Zion' because he had a deep longing for the 'Promised Land'.

Only five years after Scion's first appearance, in 1987, the first superheroes began to emerge from rumor and secrecy, followed soon after by villains. The illusions of them being divine figures was shattered fairly early on when the superhero Vikare attempted to quell a riot over a basketball game in Michigan. He was clubbed over the head and died hours later of a brain embolism. He was latere found to be Andrew Hawke, one of the passengers who originally met Scion.

The golden age of heroes was thus short lived, but regardless, Scion continued to travel restlessly around the world.

He is the only one capable of turning the tide in a battle against an Endbringer, but he isn't always guaranteed to show up. This is especially devastating in the case of Behemoth, who is effectively impossible to get close to. While he can fight them off, Scion appears either unable or unwilling to actually destroy them.

Powers

Scion, being the world's first Parahuman, is almost godlike in his abilities. In addition to flight, telekinesis, and super speed, Scion can produce a vast array of elemental lasers. These can freeze, burn, or disintegrate matter with ease. His powers may be unlimited, but he mainly sticks with using these.

All powers that parahumans have are originally from Scion or Eden. While some of Eden's core powers have been removed - for example, the 'win' power that Contessa uses - Scion still has the strongest powers possible, including the strongest precognition power and his own copy of the 'win' power.

The Truth

(WARNING: SPOILERS)

Scion, or Zion as he is actually called, is not human at all.

He is the avatar of an inter-dimensional alien creature, often referred to as an Entity. He and his mate arrived on earth hoping to exploit Humanity to continue their evolution, as seems to be the lifecycle of their kind. Long ago, their race competed with itself for the limited energy across the different realities of their home planet. After nearly dieing out, their species began to travel the stars, bonding parts of themselves (called 'Shards', the pieces of themselves that give powers) with the lifeforms of planets they encountered, and survived and grew by granting part of their power to local beings, and learning from how these abilities were used in conflicts. After they learned all they could from a world, they regathered their Shards, absorbed all bonded life for energy, and then launched themselves into space again.

This process ends up destroying all copies of the planet across reality in the process.

Zion and his mate, Eden, repeated this process across countless realities and worlds until they arrived on Earth Bet. However, Eden was killed by Contessa and Doctor Mother before the process began, leaving Scion alone and incapable of continuing, since he was unable of performing the cycle alone. He hovered above the Atlantic for days, depressed, until the cruise ship came upon him.

After a human he observed told him to perform acts of heroism he followed this course, hoping it would grant him some form of satisfaction or joy, since with the loss of his partner he lost his pupose. When this did not happen, he nevertheless continued his heroic actions out of habit.

Eventually, in 2013, Slaughterhouse Nine leader Jack Slash convinced him to carry out his planned extermination of the human race. Scion took the opportunity to experiment with his power by destroying the British Isles.

Feeling a sensation equal to some form of pleasure, relief, or satisfaction, he decided to follow through with the destruction. A coalition of heroes, villains, rogues and even Endbringers stood against him, but he was able to defeat them all. Eventually, Khepri united nearly all the remaining capes and used them as an army to fight Scion.

He was eventually defeated by his emotions after Khepri essentially bullied him to death, showing him images of Eden to call forth his feelings of loss and grief, and then using Doormaker to bring in Oliver, who appeared as a third Entity for a second - long enough to paralyze Scion with grief. Foil then hit him with one of her bolts, allowing a cannon built by all the Tinkers combined with the shards of two Yangban members to kill him.
