Behemoth is an Endbringer.

Background

Behemoth appeared on December 13th, 1992 in Marun Field, Iran.

Appearance

Behemoth is over forty-five feet tall. He has grey, leathery skin, and his body is described as a muscle-bound caricature midway between a human and a bear. His skin is encrusted with crystalline growths resembling obsidian. The growths of obsidian on his head, which resemble horns rooted in the middle of his face, are so heavy they cause his head to hang down. In a gap between two of the horns in the middle of his face, he has a single red, glowing eye. His mouth is a jagged gap, lined by obsidian-like growths roughly resembling teeth. At the end of his arms, Behemoth has growths analogous to hands, but though he can flex and move them, they are clearly only weapons.

Abilities and Powers

In addition to an Endbringer's standard invulnerability, Behemoth possesses dynakinesis. He has used this ability to control fire and lightning and direct where they go. He can absorb the kinetic force from strikes and disperse it through the ground causing shock waves and earthquakes. He can emit a sonic roar that, if unprotected, can liquefy the organs of people in range, also rupturing eardrums and eyeballs. He can also manipulate radiation, irradiating himself and the area around him.

Behemoth is considered the slowest Endbringer, but his sheer size makes him able to cover ground fairly quickly. During his attack on New Delhi, he's noted to have enough strength to leap fifty to seventy feet forward at a bound before anyone but a speedster could react. He also burrows underground to get the jump on the capes.

History

Behemoth, as the first Endbringer, has attacked the most times. Attacks include Marun Field, Iran, on December 13th, 1992; Sao Paulo on July 6th 1993; New York, on March 26th, 1994; Jakarta, on November 1st, 1994; Moscow, on June 18th, 1995; Johannesburg, on January 3rd, 1996; Cologne, on November 6th, 1996; Buenos Aires, on September 30th, 1997; Jinzhou, on July 3rd, 1998; Ankara, on July 21st, 1999; Lyon, on April 10th, 2000; Vanderhoof, on February 25th, 2001; Lagos, on December 6th, 2001; Bogotá, on August 20th, 2002; and Lyon, on October 3rd, 2003.

On July 26th, 2011, Behemoth attacked New Delhi. He overwhelmed most of the defending parahumans, destroyed most of the city, and killed most of the inhabitants. His attack was interrupted by Phīr Se's time-looped superlaser attack, which stripped him of his outer coating, and then Behemoth was interrupted by the arrival of Scion, who engaged him with greater persistence than normal.

Behemoth was then killed by Scion after Scion ripped him in half, nullified his power, denied him escape, and then vaporized him.

Quotes

"Forty-five feet tall at the very least, he climbed forth from underground.  His skin was crusted with black stone that might have been obsidian, layers of what might have been cooled magma sloughing off of him as he planted his feet on the ground and stood straight.

‘Straight’ might have been too generous.  He was built like a caricature of a bodybuilder, or a bear-human hybrid.  He rippled with muscle, his skin gray, thick and leathery like the hide of a rhinoceros or elephant.  His black obsidian horns were so heavy his head hung down.  They weren’t rooted in his forehead, but in the middle of his face, a half-dozen curved shafts of black crystal twisting their way out of his face and back over the top of his head, some ten feet long.  A single red eye glowed from between the gap in two horns, positioned too low.  His mouth was a jagged gap in his lower face, twisting up to a point near his temple, lined by jagged horn-like growths that were too irregular to be called teeth." -Interlude 15.z
