The Slaughterhouse Nine was originally founded by King. In 1987, Jack Slash and Harbinger managed to kill King, allowing Jack Slash to take command of the group. Following King’s death, Harbinger retired from the Nine.
Original Nine
The Nine was founded and led by King.

The Original Nine
At some point in the late 1990s, the Nine came to Brockton Bay and interrupted a meeting between Empire Eighty-Eight, Marquis, and the Teeth. Jack provoked a bidding war for the Nine’s services, which the Teeth won. The Nine carried out the Teeth’s request to attack the Protectorate, then turned on the Teeth and drove them out of Brockton Bay.

History
After the Undersiders were forced to leave the meeting, the Slaughterhouse Nine confronted them in a parking garage. Jack Slash told them that each candidate would be tested by every member of the Nine in turn, ending in Jack Slash; failure of a test would lead to death or worse. During this confrontation, Tattletale revealed that Cherish was plotting to take control of the Slaughterhouse Nine, something Jack Slash and Bonesaw had already countered. Jack Slash injured Tattletale for revealing this information. After this, Tattletale proposed a game to Jack Slash: if more than half of the candidates survived the tests, the Nine would only take the voluntary recruits with them and leave the remaining survivors.
The "core" members of Jack Slash's Nine up to their in-story invasion of Brockton Bay were those members that had either survived as members of the Nine for a very long time or were on their own considered A-class threats or worse. Bonesaw in particular was notable as single-handedly rating as an S-class threat due to her power giving her the ability to create tinker-tech pandemics, and Crawler had the potential to evolve into an S-class threat. The Siberian could extend its invulnerability to any other member of the Nine and infamously killed Hero, a founding member of the Protectorate, before carving out Alexandria's eye, cementing the Siberian's status as the Nine's new "untouchable" threat, restoring the Nine's reputation as being immune to retaliation, a reputation that they had lost after Glaistig Uaine managed to do the seemingly impossible and permanently kill Gray Boy. Mannequin was a "Simurgh-bomb" who went out of his way to kill any Tinkers that tried to make wide-reaching positive changes to the world, and Shatterbird had a power that could span entire cities.

The other known members were members that had either died prior to the Brockton Bay invasion or were filler members not expected to survive on the team for very long.
Shatterbird sang thirty minutes after this confrontation. Following this in quick succession, Mannequin attacked Skitter’s territory and was driven off by her, and the Slaughterhouse Nine killed all the Merchants except for Scrub, who could harm Crawler.

The Nine During Brockton Bay Invasion
Jack delivered the finalized rules of the game the next morning, giving each member of the Nine a time limit to administer their tests and prohibiting individuals who were not Brockton Bay residents from interfering. The Nine’s rules stated that they would win if they managed to kill five of the six candidates.

The Nine came to Brockton Bay in order to find a ninth member to fill the roster. They only had eight members due to Cherish killing Hatchet Face in order to prove to Jack Slash that she deserved to join the Nine and due to Jack's refusal to consider Murder Rat a true member of the Nine due to its nature as a relatively mindless creation of Bonesaw, who built Murder Rat by fusing the corpses of Ravager and Mouse Protector.

At some point, Bonesaw also created Hack Job out of the corpses of Hatchet Face and Oni Lee, and Pagoda out of the corpses of Carnal and Prophet, who also weren't considered true members for the same reason as Murder Rat. Bonesaw introduced her creations to Panacea when she sought her out to announce the fact that she had been nominated for membership in the Nine.
In between the game’s beginning and the first attack, Imp infiltrated the Slaughterhouse Nine and failed to kill Bonesaw. She instead struck a deal with Cherish.

Each of the eight members of the Nine were allowed to nominate a Brockton Bay cape for membership. The Six candidates that were picked were largely chosen through the use of Cherish’s 'emotional profiling' over any powers the individuals possessed. It was the groups intention to 'cull' the weaker candidates with the survivors being sufficently powerful for the groups standards.
Mannequin was the first to take part, attacking Skitter once more. He was driven off by the Undersiders and saved by Burnscar, forfeiting his turn. The Nine were then ambushed by the Travelers and the Undersiders, who captured Shatterbird and Cherish. In the same confrontation, Grue was captured by the Nine and later tortured by Bonesaw. The Nine captured Skitter, Tattletale, Imp, Trickster, Sundancer, and Ballistic when they attempted to rescue Grue. Bonesaw began to torture them but was blindsided by Parian. Grue underwent a second trigger, killing Burnscar and freeing his allies.

The nominees were forced into a deadly survival game where they were individually "tested" by each of the eight members of the Nine over the course of three days, with the survivor earning membership in the Slaughterhouse Nine. Jack Slash claimed that if more than one candidate survived the tests he would admit defeat and leave the Bay.
The Nine and the collective Parahumans of Brockton Bay continued to clash, ultimately resulting in Bonesaw releasing a plague causing agnosia so that none of the defending parahumans could recognize each other. Panacea cured the plague, but the Nine managed to escape, recruiting Hookwolf and leaving behind a modified Cherish on the bottom of the Bay as punishment.

Nominees
After Brockton Bay
* The scaredy cat, nominated by Bonesaw.
Following their escape from Brockton Bay, the Slaughterhouse Nine visited several towns, including Stafford and Enfield in Connecticut, in order to recruit new capes to bolster their ranks.  One of these capes was Damsel of Distress. Additionally, Hookwolf participated in his first massacre with the Nine in one of these towns, helping Jack Slash and Siberian murder hundreds of people at a rural hospital. Bonesaw kidnapped Blasto from his new base in Boston, although the Siberian was killed in a skirmish with Dragon and Defiant. The Nine proceeded to invade Toybox in order to use their technology. They set up a pocket dimension in a small town and Bonesaw placed the rest of the Nine in stasis while she began to clone their members, both past and present.
* The dog lover, nominated by the Siberian.
* The arrogant geek, nominated by Mannequin.
* The buried girl, nominated by Crawler.
* The daydreamer, nominated by Burnscar.
* The warlord, nominated by Shatterbird.
* The broken assassin, nominated by Jack Slash, invitation withdrawn.
* The crusader, back up nomination by Jack Slash never followed through.
* The brother, nominated by Cherish
Jack Slash and Burnscar had no nominate any candidates. instead Burnscar used it as an opportunity to catch up with some old friends. Jack Slash did not find anyone he researched prior to coming to the Bay worth his attention. Oni Lee failing to meet his standards and opting out of a confrontation with Purity after having engineered a conflict between himself and Theo Anders for future entertainment.

He did end up expressing interest in Skitter due to her actions during the testing period.
Contessa intercepted Bonesaw when she left the pocket dimension to get groceries and told Bonesaw to implant a control switch into the clones and give the switch to her at a later date. Bonesaw denied that she would do it, but over the course of the next year and a half, she came to change her mind. She turned the switch over to Cauldron in June of 2013 following an interrogation by Tattletale.
During the Brockton Bay invasion, Burnscar, Crawler, and Mannequin were killed, and Cherish was given a fate worse than death by Bonesaw.

History
The Slaughterhouse Nine, bolstered by their clones, began their killing spree in the small town of Killington, setting traps and bodies in a spiral outwards from a message in the town hall. One Nice Guy was left behind to ambush the investigation team, which was made up of the Red Hand, the Undersiders, Weaver, and Golem. The Nice Guy was killed by Imp. Jack Slash also left a message for Golem, telling him that he didn’t meet his deadline. In spite of this, Jack Slash gave Golem another chance to kill him, without help. The deadline for this was set for five days away on the 24th at noon. Following this, multiple teams of Parahumans worked together in order to chase down the remaining clones and kill them.
Despite Jack Slash promising to leave if more than one candidate survived, Hookwolf was declared the winner and allowed to join the Slaughterhouse Nine. After fleeing Brockton Bay, they were chased by Dragon and Defiant, who managed to kill William Manton, and thus causing the Siberian to vanish. Damsel of Distress was picked up in order to help fill out the roster until more useful and long-term members could be found. They used technology taken from Toybox in order to hide in a pocket dimension.

All members of the Slaughterhouse Nine other than Bonesaw were placed in suspended animation for two years. During this time, Bonesaw was ordered to create nine clones of all past and present members of the Slaughterhouse Nine, with the exception of herself, Hookwolf and Jack Slash (who received no clones), and Gray Boy (who received only one clone). The biotinker Blasto was kidnapped in order to help Bonesaw accomplish this. She used research notes from the parahuman Cranial in order to help her implant the clones with false memories and trick the Passengers into believing the clones were the real deal so that they would receive the original's powers.
Jack Slash then went to Ellisburg in order to recruit Nilbog and his minions. Weaver and Golem attempted to convince Nilbog not to join, but Nilbog attacked, resulting in Weaver grievously wounding him. His monsters, in revolt, join with Jack, who escapes with Nilbog’s body.

Contessa visited Bonesaw during this period in order to nudge events to facilitate Bonesaw switching sides during the Golden Morning and help the heroes.
The Slaughterhouse Nine were then pursued into their pocket dimension. The Nine having taken Aster, Weaver killed her along with a Cherish and a Screamer in case Aster’s power was what sparked the end of the world. The rest of the Nine escaped the pocket dimension.

Slaughterhouse 9000
Golem and Weaver’s group pursued them to Los Angeles, which had been warped by Bohu. They confronted Jack, Gray Boy, the remaining Siberian, and other various members of the Slaughterhouse Nine Thousand.

The final iteration of the Slaughterhouse 9 - referred to by fans as the Slaughterhouse 9000 - contained nine clones of every member to have ever been in the Slaughterhouse Nine, with the exceptions of Bonesaw, Jack Slash, Hookwolf, each of whom was the original. In the case of Gray Boy, his Passenger restored his original body, and it is implied that he held his original memories in addition to Bonesaw's implanted ones. His power also healed him of any brain modification forcing loyalty to Jack Slash.

In addition, Bonesaw created five "special" clones:
After observing how Jack seemed to be aware of everything around him, Golem ordered a PRT trooper to attack Jack, successfully distracting him for a few seconds. Sensing weakness, Grey Boy looped Jack before being killed by Foil. Jack was buried in containment foam.

Despite being trapped, Jack was able to talk to Scion about his views on predation and cruelty. Scion broke Gray Boy’s loop and then went on to destroy the United Kingdom, beginning Gold Morning. <!--

Jack's goal was to challenge Theo Anders as one of his endless games to stave off boredom, as well as to discover the method he was prophesied to end the world. If Theo failed to kill Jack, he would disband the 9000, leaving them to wreak havoc.

During the conflict, Gray Boy perceived weakness in Jack Slash and traps him in a timeloop to make him suffer what might as well be eternal torment. He also managed to trap Scion in a timeloop before being killed by Foil.

The timeloop Jack Slash was trapped in had enough time between loops to allow him to talk. It also made it impossible for the heroes to kill him. This, combined with his powers being based on broadcasting, meant that the heroes had no way to shut him up and stop him from instigating the Golden Morning.

As of the end of Worm, only four members are confirmed as alive. Jack Slash is trapped in a Grey Boy time bubble, Cherish is trapped at the bottom of a deep undersea trench with Mannequin's life support systems keeping her alive, Harbinger defected to Cauldron before the start of the main story, and Bonesaw defected to the Wardens. Several clones, including some Harbingers, may still be alive.

The group was founded by King, but was quickly taken over by Jack Slash, who killed King with the aid of Harbinger in 1987.

History[edit]

Background[edit]

The Slaughterhouse Nine was originally founded by King. In 1987, Jack Slash and Harbinger managed to kill King, allowing Jack Slash to take command of the group. Following King’s death, Harbinger retired from the Nine.

They were known to frequent areas previously visited by the Endbringers, to take advantage of the chaos.

Brockton Bay[edit]

The Slaughterhouse Nine arrived in Brockton Bay for a second time in early June of 2011. They initially split up in order to recruit each of their chosen individuals as candidates for membership, scouting out these candidates for several days and speaking to them on June 7th and 8th. Their arrival prompted the heroes and villains of Brockton Bay to meet in order to discuss how to combat the Nine.

During this time, Cauldron also sent Battery a note telling her to let Siberian and Shatterbird escape the city alive.

Shatterbird sang thirty minutes after this confrontation. Following this in quick succession, Mannequin attacked Skitter’s territory and was driven off by her, and the Slaughterhouse Nine killed all the Merchants except for Scrub, who could harm Crawler.

Jack delivered the finalized rules of the game the next morning, giving each member of the Nine a time limit to administer their tests and prohibiting individuals who were not Brockton Bay residents from interfering. The Nine’s rules stated that they would win if they managed to kill five of the six candidates.

In between the game’s beginning and the first attack, Imp infiltrated the Slaughterhouse Nine and failed to kill Bonesaw. She instead struck a deal with Cherish.

After Brockton Bay[edit]

Slaughterhouse 9000[edit]

Main article: The Slaughterhouse Nine-Thousand

The Slaughterhouse Nine were then pursued into their pocket dimension. The Nine having taken Aster, Weaver killed her along with a Cherish and a Screamer in case Aster’s power was what sparked the end of the world. The rest of the Nine escaped the pocket dimension.

Golem and Weaver’s group pursued them to Los Angeles, which had been warped by Bohu. They confronted Jack, Gray Boy, the remaining Siberian, and other various members of the Slaughterhouse Nine Thousand.

“Pathetic,” Gray Boy said. “Stupid, useless. I thought you’d do something interesting, but you made yourself prey, instead of the predator. If you’re going to be prey, I want you to be my prey.”

It dawned on Golem. Gray Boy froze him. - Exerpt from Interlude 26b</ref>

She drew her rapier from its sheath, throwing it in the same motion.

It penetrated Hookwolf, sailed past him to impale the side of one of the tombstone like buildings.

Hookwolf wavered, then collapsed into a heap that looked like it would make for an exceedingly dangerous game of pick-up-sticks. - Exerpt from Interlude 26b</ref>
Damsel of Distress Creates zones of matter destruction, as well as recoil for a Mover rating. Killed by Defiant.<ref>He hopped onto his feet in a single movement, slashing with the spear’s point. The tip struck Damsel across the eyes, blinding her. He reversed the spear and swung it, and the spear-butt caught her in the side of the head. She was knocked down onto all fours before she could direct her power at him again.

The man dug the spear’s point into the ground to help propel himself towards her. His leg flared with a gray blur as he reached her, and be brought it down onto her back from above.

It sheared through her as though she weren’t even there, cutting her in half.
