Background

Professor Haywire tore a hole between realities. <ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Agitation 3.4</ref>

Abilities and Personality

Professor Haywire was a Tinker specializing in "interdimensional tech".

Multidimensional projectiles, guns that fired 'tags' that shunted people into other realities for a time, created doors between realities, a lens that could be tuned (like a radio station) to peer into different realities. He could also build basic tinker stuff (power armor, ray guns) All of this came with costs - the inter-reality stuff was expensive to build, and all the while, he had to endure multiple personalities. Not so much one head with different personalities taking turns, but three conjoined (in a manner of speaking - they were connected between realities, not physically) heads with constant communication between. A little crazed as a consequence.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/Parahumans/comments/2t00lg/what_was_haywires_specialty/</ref>

Legacy

The hole between realities that Professor Haywire created led Earth-Bet to discover Earth-Aleph. It also allowed the two alternate earths to communicate with one another. It was soon discovered that media was one of the few things that could be traded back and forth through the hole - leading to the trade of books, movies and DVDs of TV shows.

The Simurgh would later access a vault containing Professor Haywire's technology before creating large-scale versions of it. The Simurgh used this technology to create two gateways - one between Earth-Aleph and Earth-Bet and one between Cauldron's research facility and Earth-Bet. The portal had dumped the buildings, soil, plant life and all the residents into Madison, Wisconsin. <ref>"Worm" Web Serial, Migration 17.6</ref>
