From the one combat section we see with Gavel (29.2), here's what I've gathered:
- His durability appears to take all damage over some small period of time (probably a second or less) and reduce it to a set amount, about equal to gouging out "a teaspoon of flesh"
- This durability is speculated by characters to be similar in source to scion's durability; he has a massive store of alt-gavels in parallel worlds, and damaged flesh is swapped out for undamaged spare material.
- Apparently this durability can be transferred.
- The durability also allows him to ignore momentum and similar things? For instance, he throws his hammer to block one of Scion's attacks, but the hammer's trajectory is unaffected by the force of the attack or the resulting explosion.
But I'm still confused on a few points. I'm not sure exactly how the durability can be transferred - can he pick any target in an area / line of sight? Or is it only by touch? He's stated to be able to grant it to his hammer and to enemies when he hits them, so it would have to be a sort of transitive touch - he can give it to anything touching him, or touching something with the power (that he's touching?)... I don't know.
Then there's the question of how long the power is granted, and how many targets can have it at once. Does he still have his durability when he gives it to his hammer? His hammer keeps the durability when he throws it - does it eventually wear off, or does he have to take it back?
Finally, I have to imagine he has some super-strength of some kind to go along with this. A hammer as tall as he is that's made of solid steel... that's pretty heavy.
Anyway, Wildbow has a lot of WOG floating around, so if someone sees something about this, please edit it in. Convincing arguments or wild speculation are also appreciated. Lachrymoselocust (talk) 04:28, January 18, 2015 (UTC)
