Yips
Yips is a chihuahua that Rachel Lindt has started training as part of her "Field team".
Personality[edit]
Was nervous and easily frightened, this makes him more vigilant.<ref>A small movement made the dog jump back. It saw me and jumped back again.
I realized what the movement was- a figure, camouflaged. The camouflage was dying out, and it wasn’t nearly as effective as it had been.
[...]
I looked over in Rachel’s direction. “Dog spotted him sneaking up on us. He’s friendly.” - Excerpt from Pitch 6.2</ref> He is still very accident prone.<ref>I saw Cassie with Yips and Rachel with three more dogs walking without leashes. Yips raised his right leg to pee, then picked up his other right paw off the ground because it was in snow or something. He fell over, still peeing, making Rachel jump back and making one of the other dogs bounce around playfully.
Cassie just laughed. - Excerpt from Radiation 18.2</ref>
Appearance[edit]
Like all chihuahua, Yips could be generously described as a cross between a rat and a dog.
When influenced by Rachel's power he is noticeably thin compared to other enhanced dogs.<ref>“You say dogs,” Candy chimed in, “But Yips is barely a dog.”
Rachel slammed the door in Candy’s face.
“Yips?” I asked.
Rachel indicated one of the animals. The smallest and gangliest of the monster hounds. It was still large enough that when it walked by the van, its spine was level with the top of the vehicle. - Excerpt from Blinding 11.10</ref> <ref>Two dogs were protecting their master, with the gangly Yips clinging to the side of the building, tail and tongue hanging straight down. - Excerpt from Blinding 11.11</ref>
History[edit]
Background[edit]
It is unknown how Yips wound up in Rachel's care.
Early-Ward[edit]
Rachel brought Yips into rotation in an attempt to improve his demeanor.<ref>“Don’t be annoying,” Rachel said.
"You have a really bad gauge of what annoying is, for the record, especially when you bring Yips along all the time now-” Imp said, indicating the gangly dog. “And Yips is your worst dog.”
"I’m trying to make him a better dog, like I’m trying to make you a better human. Don’t be annoying.” - Excerpt from Pitch 6.2</ref> He was able to spot an interloper.
Post-Fallen fall[edit]
Was presumably kept in rotation.
Post-Goddess' Takeover[edit]
Fought against Nailbiter and other parahumans with his master.<ref>Blinding 11.11</ref>
The Ice Breaks[edit]
Rachel kept him with her throughout the event.<ref>Rachel had Yips zipped up into her coat, so his head stuck out of the ‘v’ of the zipper’s opening. It was a heavy coat that looked like it could flatten a small child if it were dropped on them, with fur around the collar and hood that was more wooly or shaggy than it was ‘hair’ like I normally associated with parkas. She shrugged at something Cassie said, pulling the ‘v’ of the zipper up against Yips’ throat. He hacked out a cough, which disturbed the other dogs that were lying between her feet and the fire. - Excerpt from Radiation 18.3</ref>
He was present when Rachel confronted kenzie over abducting a defenseless puppy.<ref>Radiation 18.8</ref>
Trivia[edit]
