Professor Haywire was a Tinker specializing in "interdimensional tech". Besides the general tinker-tech creations of power suits and laser rifles that he would outfit himself and his minions with whenever he needed to secure the funds and materials needed for his experiments. Haywire also created things like 'tag' ammunition that temporarily shunted the victim into another reality, along with ammunition that could sink into one reality to get around a obstacle and surface in the datum reality to strike it's target. Some of his enduring creations were viewing lenses to see what was occurring in other realities, and multidimensional portals that could be used to travel between realities.<ref name="R1">Interdimensional tech. Multidimensional projectiles, guns that fired 'tags' that shunted people into other realities for a time, created doors between realities, a lens that could be tuned (like a radio station) to peer into different realities. Not so much one head with different personalities taking turns, but three conjoined (in a manner of speaking - they were connected between realities, not physically) heads with constant communication between. A little crazed as a consequence.

Because of his powers he was in constant communication with two other versions of himself on alternate earths, this presumably helped him to set up much of his inter-dimensional tech in the first place. His behavior was further influenced by his [[Passenger]], forcing him to take risks and induce conflict where he may have been content to stay in a lab.<ref name="R2">Keep in mind, also, that the shards aren't inclined to let people sit around and spend months of time working on side projects without getting any dose of conflict. The [[Portal]]s that were created by his technology played a large part in how society would develop in later years.
The hole between realities that Professor Haywire created led Earth-Bet to discover Earth-Aleph. It also almost sparked a war.<ref name="17.3c2">Explanation isn’t in story, but I’ve given it before. Bet’s and Aleph’s residents almost came to war, over fear of what would happen if one earth tried to prey on the other for resources. Bet had more firepower. Major players in Bet (some who’ve been named already) offered concessions, and taking the name ‘bet’ was one of several symbolic measures. - [https://parahumans.wordpress.com/2013/01/10/migration-17-3/#comment-60748 Comment by Wildbow] on [[Migration 17.3]]</ref> Thankfully several agreements between the govermental entities of the earths prevented this.<ref name="19.7">“There’s sanctions, treaties, truces.  If you open this hole to Earth Aleph, it could mean a war between universes.” - [https://parahumans.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/scourge-19-7/ Excerpt] from [[Scourge 19.7]]</ref>
